Nagyerdei Open Air Stage was built in 1950, in one of the most beautiful parts of the Nagyerdő, among huge forest pines.
At the opening ceremony, on June 10, 1950, Zoltán Kodály´s song play Székelyfonó was presented in the presence of the author and directed by Imre Csenki.
In the decades that have passed since then, the Nagyerdei Open Air Stage has become an integral part of the cultural life of the people of Debrecen; generations had fun here until the beginning of the new millennium.
The summer program series of the Nagyerdei Open Air Stage spans from May 1st to September 30th every year, which includes more than forty cultural programs from the rich repertoire of performing arts genres - theater performances, serious and light music concerts, familyprograms and garden cinemas offers to the residents and guests of the region.
In the summer, the stage also hosts some programs of the Béla Bartók Choir Competition and Folklore Festival, the International Military Band Festival, the Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days, and the Debrecen Flower Carnival.
